For the 5th consecutive year Mitab hold the contest Stand On Your Own. This years winner is Johanna Öhlén Meschke. Johanna is a student at Chalmers in Stockholm.
In tough competition , the hury of Stand On Your Own appainted Johanna´s construbution as the most interesting and challenging. At the moment she is studying on an exchange year at Universität der Künste in Berlin. In Febuary her stand concept will be realized during the Stockholm Furniture Fair.
- My aim was to tell a story through with the concept. I also wanted tp create an attraction, something that makes people want to stay. To me the Mitab brand is about geographical orgin, tradition and natural materials. I wanted this to be reflected in the stand concept, not only in two dimensional pictures but in something spatially you can touch and feel, something interactive.
Jury motivation:
As teh winning entry in Stand On Your Own 2011, Johanna Öhlén Meschke is appointed with a winning concept that expresses the contrasts in wich Mitab is working. By combining different materials, different shapes and different ways to exhibit and experience the furniture, an interesting whole is created that communicates with the viewer. The natural connection between finished product and material show the genuineness in the Mitab furniture.
